Roman Abramovich may not be the owner of Chelsea anymore but he still reserves his comment about the club in whatever happened as he still has a special place in his heart for the club.

Barely six months Potter joined Chelsea following Abramovich leaving the club he is getting sacked and this only speaks volumes and it does not sound very well.

Previous comments from Abramovich speak volumes about the club and how the decision-makers seem to share the same viewpoint when it comes to hiring and firing managers.

Speaking to Forbes in 2021, the former Chelsea owner said: “I think we are pragmatic in our choices.

“And we are comfortable making the right changes at the right time to ensure we can achieve our long-term ambitions.

“I hope it also says something about the clarity of the long-term ambition of the club.

“Those who join understand the objectives both on the pitch, as well as the wider positive role the club plays in the community.”

His words about Chelsea ‘making right changes at the right time to ensure we can achieve our long-term ambitions’ certainly sound about right.

Boehly had previously vowed to move away from the intolerance and impatience of the Abramovich regime.

But it’s clear he felt compelled to sack Potter and that now was the right time to strike.

Chelsea are, after all, still in contention for Champions League glory – with Real Madrid up next in that competition.

Meanwhile, in their statement released on Sunday, Boehly and Behdad Eghbali explained the decision to axe Potter.

“On behalf of everyone at the club, we want to thank Graham sincerely for his contribution to Chelsea,” he stated.

“We have the highest degree of respect for Graham as a coach and as a person.

“He has always conducted himself with professionalism and integrity and we are all disappointed in this outcome.

“Along with our incredible fans, we will all be getting behind Bruno and the team as we focus on the rest of the season.

“We have ten Premier League games remaining and a Champions League quarter-final ahead. We will put every effort and commitment into every one of those games so that we can end the season on a high.”

Chelsea are next in action against Liverpool on Tuesday (8pm).

The match between the two sides finished goalless at Anfield earlier in the season.
