Man United are reportedly interested in signing AS Monaco midfield ace Youssouf Fofana.

Manchester United are ‘keen’ on signing AS Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana.

That is according to a report by Tutto Juve, which claims the French club will ‘demand at least £26million’ for his signature. United are set to make signing a new central midfielder one of their leading priorities in 2024.

The Reds, as reported by the Manchester Evening News in September, have identified four key areas that they want to strengthen next year, with the centre of midfield among them. The club are already said to be hunting for Casemiro’s long-term successor.

Despite only joining United a little over a year ago, the Brazilian, who is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, has regressed in recent months, meaning the club are already said to be on the hunt for his successor. They have been linked with a whole host of midfielders from right across Europe.

Fofana, 24, has gone from strength to strength since joining Monaco from RC Strasbourg in 2020, making more than 150 appearances for the club. As a result of his performances, a whole host of big-name clubs from right across Europe are reportedly keeping tabs on his situation.

Capable of both defending and attacking in the engine room, Fofana is an appealing option for several clubs in pursuit of a well-rounded midfielder. With just over 18 months left on his current contract, 2024 could represent Monaco’s last chance to cash-in on him for a decent fee.

Meanwhile, United have put a ‘€20-30million’ price tag on centre-back Raphael Varane. That is according to journalist Florian Plettenberg, as cited by We All Follow United, who claims United would give the ‘green light’ for him to seal an exit in January.

The defender has been strongly linked with an exit from Old Trafford in recent weeks following a recent reduction in game time. Varane, who joined United in August 2021, has not started a Premier League fixture since September 30, starting the 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.

Starting all of the last four league matches on the bench, Varane is reportedly becoming ‘frustrated’ with the situation and, as a result, has been heavily linked with a January move to Saudi Arabia. German heavyweights Bayern Munich are now also being credited with interest in his signature.

According to the report, Bayern are ‘monitoring his situation’ amid the prospect of making an official move for his signature. Varane has made 12 appearances in total so far this season, scoring one goal.
