Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United will undergo significant changes next season, as the club plans a comprehensive overhaul of its midfield.

As expected, lots of ins and outs.

Brazilian international Casemiro is set to leave Old Trafford in the coming weeks following a disappointing season, while Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen’s future remains uncertain.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are eager to fill any gaps left by departing players, and Manchester United is reportedly eyeing a Premier League midfielder. The Red Devils have shown interest in West Ham United’s Edson Alvarez.

According to the report, United has identified the Mexico international as a top priority in their search for midfield reinforcements, although West Ham is hesitant to part ways with him. The Hammers are expected to demand approximately £40 million for the central midfielder, who joined them from Ajax last summer.

Alvarez, 26, had an impressive debut season at The London Stadium, featuring in 42 matches across all competitions under David Moyes, including 31 appearances in the Premier League.

Current United manager Erik ten Hag previously worked with Alvarez during their time at Ajax, and the report suggests he remains an admirer of the midfielder and is interested in a reunion.

Furthermore, if United fails to secure Alvarez, they may turn their attention to Benfica’s Joao Gomes. However, meeting Gomes’ £70 million release clause this summer is deemed unlikely.
