Mendy edging closer to Leaving Chelsea this time; What we know so far and his next destination

Mendy edging closer to Leaving Chelsea for good this time; What we know so far and his next destination.

Chelsea former number one goal keeper will be leaving Chelsea sooner as reports have claimed and we now know his next possible destination after Chelsea.

The Times says Mendy has a contract that runs until 2025 with the Blues but, after falling out of favour with Graham Potter, the goalkeeper could soon be on his way out of west London.

The 31-year-old has held talks with club chiefs over a new deal at Stamford Bridge but they’ve made little progress in their discussions.

The club are nowhere near reaching an agreement for his contract extension and are prioritising other players contract renewals over Mendy’s.

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly, since his arrival in the summer, wants to prevent players from going below two years remaining on their contracts and so has opened discussions with the Senegal international.

Mendy has hardly featured for Potter, with a shoulder problem and then the finger injury limiting him to just five appearances under the former Brighton boss.

In his absence Kepa Arrizabalaga has taken over as first choice and enjoyed a regular run of starts since September.

The Spaniard has kept eight clean sheets from his 18 Premier League appearances this campaign and has repaid the faith placed in him by Potter.

Mendy, meanwhile, was named the world’s best goalkeeper a year ago after a stunning start to this Chelsea career following his 2020 move from Rennes.
